First Christian Church /  Things You’d Like to Know
Things You’d Like to Know

“We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”

Flower arrangements are displayed in the Sanctuary to grace our Sunday mornings.

Flowers may be donated in honor of or in memory of someone or to the glory of God.

After the 10:45 AM worship service, you may choose to take the flowers home with you or have our Flower Ministry Team deliver them to our members who are homebound or ill.

Cost is $60. Please contact the office to arrange for displays or for more information.

CWF Condolence Committee

The CWF Condolence Committee stays pretty busy and, therefore, our funds are always a challenge. If you would like to contribute to the Condolence Fund, which is responsible for our funeral dinners, you may mail or deliver your donation to the Church Office.

Thank you very much!

Let’s Make Life Easier

Many of you pay for everything with debit cards or online. I know that the only checks I write these days are the ones to the Church. But I often find myself saying, “Oh no, I forgot my check”… again. One way to make giving your pledges and offerings simpler is to have them automatically come out of your bank account each month.

First Christian Church offers automatic bank withdrawals through the Automated Clearing House (ACH.) You can specify an amount that you would like to come out each month. We are currently set up to pull funds from bank accounts on the 1st or 15th of every month (or the next business day if it falls on the weekend.)

If you’d like more information about how the ACH works, please call me at 255—6116. If you decide you’re ready to use the ACH option, simply stop by the Church Office to fill out the bank authorization form, or call and I’ll mail you a form.

Do you like to sing? Have you ever thought about being a part of the Choir? We’d love for you to share your voice with us! Choir Rehearsal is every Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM in the Choir Room. If you attend Wednesday Unite’s dinner and/or a study option you’ll be finished just in time to join us in the Choir Room! We hope you’ll consider joining us!

The funeral pall, a beautiful white damask cloth with a gold cross in the center, is available for use at funerals held in our church. The funeral pall is a special cloth to cover the casket while it is in the church. The funeral pall replaces flowers normally used on the casket. Thus, all caskets, however plain or extravagant, are vested as equals.

The pall is used only in the church and will be available for use on a casket upon request. The pall is placed over the casket before it is brought into the sanctuary and is removed in the narthex after the service. Flowers are never placed on top of the pall. The funeral pall provides simplicity and elegance to the service.

We experience the loss of loved ones and we want to do things to celebrate their memory. In fact, there are several ways to honor the person in a way that best reflects their interest, and help the congregation to serve in positive opportunities too!
